Microsoft Immersion Day on AWS
This page lists the labs, timing and related info you’ll need to work through this immersion day.
To access the labs, and avoid having to reconfigure your laptop, you will access a Windows EC2 instance preconfigured with all the tools you’ll need to complete the labs in this immersion day. You will use an AWS account supplied by AWS. This is not your work or personal AWS account and will not be accessible after this immersion day.
All the Cloudformation templates have been deployed, thereby avoiding the need to launch and wait for the build to complete.

9:00 - 9:10 Let’s get started with AWS! - Welcome.
9:10 - 9:55 General: Optimizing Microsoft workloads on AWS - Presentation In this session we talk about different tools and services that can help with optimizing for cost and performance for your Microsoft workloads.
9:55 - 10:40 General: AWS Systems Manager - Gain and Action Operational Insights - Presentation In this session we cover different AWS systems manager capabilities and how they manage their Windows workloads using it.
10:40 - 10:55 Break Break for 15 min.
10:55 - 11:55 Managing Windows Servers at Scale Lab - Lab In this lab attendees will use AWS Systems Manager to perform various Windows Server management tasks.
11:55 - 12:45 Lunch break for 50 minutes
12:45 - 13:30 Monitoring and Logging Management for Microsoft Workloads - Presentation In this session we cover different features and services within AWS cloudwatch which can help you monitor both metrics and logs in your environment and taking action based on those metrics and logs.
13:30 - 14:15 General: 5- CloudWatch Logging - Lab In this lab, you will learn how to install the CloudWatch agent on your instances, configure the CloudWatch agent with monitoring parameters that you want to capture, store the configuration information in System Manager Parameter Store, and finally install the CloudWatch agent on a second instance using the parameters read from the Parameter Store.
14:15 - 15:00 General: 6- CloudWatch Automated Response - Lab In this lab, you will: Learn how to automate responses to events using 1) CloudWatch event rules and 2) CloudWatch metrics and alerts. You will also create CloudWatch dashboard to see the trends of CloudWatch metrics over time and use CloudWatch Log Insights to analyze the data in your logs.

15:10 - 15:55 Active Directory: Route 53 Resolvers - Presentation This deck is used for a discussion with a customer on how to use Route 53 Resolvers with AD.
15:55 - 16:40 Active Directory: 4 - Route 53 Resolvers with Active Directory - Lab In this lab, you will get hands-on experience with these three Route 53 resolver tools. AWS Managed Microsoft Active Directory will be used to simulate your on-premises DNS infrastructure. Please ensure you READ YOUR EMAIL for critical steps needed for testing on part 3 of this lab.
16:40 - 16:50 Conclusion and next steps
OPTIONAL IF WE GET TIME: Amazon FSx for Windows File Server - Presentation In this presentation we will dive deep in Amazon FSx for Windows file server. We will be discussing performance, availability, scalability, security, backup/restore strategies, cost, administration, migration, hybrid and general use cases.
